New Business Cards

Hey guys, so just for fun I thought I'd get myself some business cards! I'd been telling people about my little hobby (No, not that one, 3D printing you filthy minded animals) and it was getting exhausting having to spell out web addresses or look over their shoulder as they tried to find the correct Instagram page.  So I decided to mock up some basic cards that had a QR code for my  Instagram , Facebook and this blog.  I ended up liking the simple design so much I went ahead and ordered some cards! The QR cards make it a breeze to get people to the right pages, especially on Apple (urgh) as the native camera app picks up the code when pointed at the image with no other apps required (Android still requires a dedicated QR scanner app, come on Google! Sort it out!).  I used a free online QR code design tool and stuck some mini logos in the middle of each so people would know which code took them where. I paid a little extra to get the cards with raised print ...

Some of my Favourite Prints of the Past Couple Months

Hey guys, as I haven't done a print of the month in a little while, I thought this week I'd just share with you all a few of the prints I'm most happy with from the past couple of months.  If you follow me on Instagram (If not why not?!) you may have seen these before. I'm going to split this post into tree sections; "Functional prints", "Projects" and "Just for fun". Functional prints Both of these prints are for the redecorating of our second room, which is currently in full swing.  We both have new desks and have converted the space where my wife's old desk was into a workspace for projects!! I will definitely do a post with photos when the room is finished, but for now I have printed a couple of items to help keep the room nice and tidy.  First we wanted to mount the Google Home Mini to the wall like we did in the bedroom, so I printed another "invisible" mount; It looks great and keeps the speaker firmly in plac...

Low Poly Dinos on Kickstarter

Hey guys, gonna preface this with I have not been paid or asked to write about this project, I just thought it was cool and wanted to share. I have never paid for a model to 3D print before...  With the plethora of models that are free on various sites such as Myminifactory and Thingiverse , there has been no need.  But I came across this Kickstarter a little while ago and thought it looked so cool I had to donate. The Kickstarter in question is being run by Joe Larson AKA The 3D Printing Professor and he has been creating instructional material in the 3D Printing space for years. The Kickstarter is to allow Joe to produce a bunch of low poly (polygon) dinosaurs and having seen some prints done by early recipients of the models they look amazing. I was sold.  I had to print these models...  I went to the campaign page and initially pledged $10, which would have got me a base set of models including the Triceratops and T-Rex and at first I ...

Print of the Month April '18

Hey guys, for this months POTM I thought I'd print myself a little something to tide me over while I wait for my Tesla Model 3... It's a little supercharger for my work phone! I have to say, I've been having a few problems recently with the extruder jamming on me and I'm not sure why yet.  This meant I had to try three times before I managed to get a finished print of the white sides of the charger... One of the failed prints I'm not sure if the new filament I got has gummed up the nozzle, or if it's just time for me to get a new one (it's the same nozzle that came with my printer last year and has had around 8kg of plastic through it!). I'll keep trying to print stuff but in the meantime I will order a set of new nozzles from Cetus and see if I can get things working again. Another issue I had with the print was that I ran out of silver on the base, totally my fault, so I had to swap material half way through... The print ...

Syfy Channel stuff!

Hey guys, this week I thought I'd mention another cool place to get free models, similar to the NASA one I did a few weeks ago .  This time its a profile on Thingiverse , but as far as I can tell it is the official page for the TV channel SYFY .  They have published a load of models from some of their more popular shows and it is definitely worth checking out... Some noteworthy shows that have sprung out of SYFY include; Killjoys Killjoys follows a trio of hard-living bounty hunters – Dutch, John, and D'avin. Working for the Reclamation Apprehension Coalition (RAC), they work in a four planet-and-moon system known as the Quad. Taking on warrants to apprehend people or property, RAC Agents are given high authority by their agency. As part of their job, they swear to remain neutral in conflicts and owe no allegiance to any system, government, or other organizations. With their pasts coming back to haunt them, the trio will have to work hard to keep themselves, and...
