New Business Cards

Hey guys, so just for fun I thought I'd get myself some business cards! I'd been telling people about my little hobby (No, not that one, 3D printing you filthy minded animals) and it was getting exhausting having to spell out web addresses or look over their shoulder as they tried to find the correct Instagram page.  So I decided to mock up some basic cards that had a QR code for my  Instagram , Facebook and this blog.  I ended up liking the simple design so much I went ahead and ordered some cards! The QR cards make it a breeze to get people to the right pages, especially on Apple (urgh) as the native camera app picks up the code when pointed at the image with no other apps required (Android still requires a dedicated QR scanner app, come on Google! Sort it out!).  I used a free online QR code design tool and stuck some mini logos in the middle of each so people would know which code took them where. I paid a little extra to get the cards with raised print ...

Some of my Favourite Prints of the Past Couple Months

Hey guys, as I haven't done a print of the month in a little while, I thought this week I'd just share with you all a few of the prints I'm most happy with from the past couple of months.  If you follow me on Instagram (If not why not?!) you may have seen these before. I'm going to split this post into tree sections; "Functional prints", "Projects" and "Just for fun". Functional prints Both of these prints are for the redecorating of our second room, which is currently in full swing.  We both have new desks and have converted the space where my wife's old desk was into a workspace for projects!! I will definitely do a post with photos when the room is finished, but for now I have printed a couple of items to help keep the room nice and tidy.  First we wanted to mount the Google Home Mini to the wall like we did in the bedroom, so I printed another "invisible" mount; It looks great and keeps the speaker firmly in plac...

Low Poly Dinos on Kickstarter

Hey guys, gonna preface this with I have not been paid or asked to write about this project, I just thought it was cool and wanted to share. I have never paid for a model to 3D print before...  With the plethora of models that are free on various sites such as Myminifactory and Thingiverse , there has been no need.  But I came across this Kickstarter a little while ago and thought it looked so cool I had to donate. The Kickstarter in question is being run by Joe Larson AKA The 3D Printing Professor and he has been creating instructional material in the 3D Printing space for years. The Kickstarter is to allow Joe to produce a bunch of low poly (polygon) dinosaurs and having seen some prints done by early recipients of the models they look amazing. I was sold.  I had to print these models...  I went to the campaign page and initially pledged $10, which would have got me a base set of models including the Triceratops and T-Rex and at first I ...

Ovion's Battletech 3D Printable Models

Hey guys, this week I wanted to draw attention to the Patreon of a guy on the Battletech Discord. He's a freelance 3d modeler and is doing some really cool stuff for tabletop Battletech, Warhammer and Dungeons & Dragons communities. As I know him from the Battletech Discord (Come check it out by the way) I'm going to showcase some of the models he's put up on his Patreon in relation to the game with the big stompy mechs!  All of his models are created by him from scratch and they look great!  I won't put any names with them, for copyrighting reasons, but I'm sure you Battletech fans out there will be able to figure out what's what. I picked a small selection of his models to show here, but go check out his page for the whole lot and he is releasing new models all the time. Tanks 'Mechs If you don't see what you like or if Battletech isn't your thing, he does commissions for custom models so it would definitely be wor...

Wedding Prints

Any of you who know me in real life will probably know that I'm getting married this weekend. Because of that, the last few blog posts have been a little on the short side due to me having my priorities lie elsewhere!  However this week I thought I'd quickly show off a few of the items I have been printing for the big day and how 3D Printing has made things a little bit easier/cheaper for us. Names for Drinks One way we are going to help people find their drinks in the sea of drinking that will be our wedding (I'm assuming) was to 3D Print everyone's name and to tie it to a small inflatable flamingo drinks holder. Table Numbers I have also printed large numbers that will be tied to the picnic baskets to help people find their allocated picnic. Seating Plan Numbers The numbers were also printed at a smaller scale without the loop on top to be attached to the seating plan at the entrance of the venue.   Cake Tier One of the ...

Mini Macro Lens

Hey guys, little review again this week.  A few months ago my fiancĂ©e got me a small, clip-on macrolens for my phone.  It has 3 modes; macro, supermacro and fisheye. I haven't been using the fish eye very much but the two macro lenses are great for taking images of my 3d prints. It's super easy to use, it just clips over the phone camera, with kind of a clothes peg type arrangement. It has a thin layer of foam on the inside too prevent damage to the phone.  The lenses screw into the peg, with the macro and supermacro (as I've named it) being a two part lens. With both parts together you get a standard macro effect but with the smaller part on its own it real zooms in and allows the phone to focus on close up detail.  Here are some photos using the various modes ; Seems a bit 'fishy' to me... Now as it was a small gift, I don't know how much it actually cost but if you look online you can find very similar lens kits for ...
