A tale of four prints

This week I thought I'd talk about some Heroforge prints I had done and some issues that occurred and why I think they happened so that you guys don't make the same mistakes as I did. I use Meshmixer for all my miniature or complex model support.  As much as I love the Cetus3D and the ease of use of the propriety software, the support generation leaves a lot to be desired.  using Meshmixer you have all the control you need to create accurate support structures allowing for much more complex models and finer detail (it is also a hell of a lot easier to remove than the Cetus generated supports). Support generation in Meshmixer Id like to also preface this post with the fact that I'm pretty sure all the failures were my fault and not due to either the models or the software. Print No.1 This print was a simple case of poorly designed and checked supports.  I didn't ensure there was enough under the shield and had also told the software to make the support sticks

DnD Write up: Surviving the house

Hey guys, so this is my first write up of the DnD campaign I am currently playing through with some friends and as we have played two sessions so far, this will be a really long post. We're playing through the Curse of Strahd premade campaign and the first section of this post was graciously written up by our dungeon master Lucas.  We played the second session last Sunday and I have written up what happened but please bear in mind I am no writer!  I hope you find it entertaining and without any further stalling or adding anymore to the word count of this post, please enjoy; Last Session The group made their way through a thick fog, wandering aimlessly for several hours the mist cleared and they found themselves travelling along a road through the forest.   They found a mysterious gateway and passed through, the gates closing behind them.   Continuing along the road they found the remains of a messenger, gnawed on by large wolves. He was carrying a letter send by

Top five prints of 2017

Ok I know we're nearing the end of January and I'm a little late to the party but lets have a look at some of the prints I thought came out the best or that I just liked the most from 2017. Bearing in mind I only got my printer in August of last year, this is pretty much between most of my  prints so far (which is a lot) but there are a few that I have already printed this year that I also really like but won't include, maybe I'll do my favourite print of the month going forward or something. No. 5. DnD Furniture I. Love. These. They came out perfectly and once painted they really look the part.  Big thanks to Dutchmogul and Curufin for their amazing, free models on Thingiverse! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- No 4. TOS Phaser When my future father in law (FFIL?) first saw my printer he seemed pretty impressed and he asked could I print a phaser from the original series of Star Trek?   Duh, of course I cou

Into the deep end...

Testing, testing, is this thing on? Right, I have literally(*figuratively) no idea what I'm doing here. Where to start? What to talk about? Maybe a quick introduction would help get the creative juices flowing... I live in the UK near London with my fiancĂ©e, our two cats and two rabbits.  I currently look after visualisation at a well known construction contractor having worked my way up over the last seven years from my starting role as a trainee CAD technician.  The road has not always been smooth, the construction industry being notoriously stuck in the past and slow to adopt new technologies and processes.  Recently however I feel like I have really been making progress with the help of my younger brother who joined my team a couple of years ago (I say 'team' but it really is just the two of us).  In the four years since I started the company down this path we have managed to introduce the capability to produce mid-level quality renders and animations, virtual reali
